King George Gallery To Open On Monday 5th December! On Monday the 5th December the King George Gallery will be officially opened at 6.30pm by Professor Roger Greenhalgh nee Roger Flint. Roger attended the school between 1952 and 1959 after attending Granby Boys School. He lived in the North of Ilkeston in Cotmanhay at this time. Roger went on to become one of the most famous Vascular Surgeons in the World (I have included his CV). After the official ribbon cutting at 6.30pm we have a myriad of special guests who will be speaking about the importance of the Arts Culture and Heritage and how this facility will or has affected them in their work or personal life. The guest speakers include: Councillor Mike Wallis; Tracey Dundas Associate Principal the Ormiston Ilkeston Academy; Peter Bishop Chair of Governors the Ormiston Ilkeston Academy; Roger Mitchell ex student and teacher at Ilkeston School, roger has been forefrontal with his passion and drive that he has enthused through this project. It was his input that enabled the Gallery space to become Grade 2*listed; Gill Taylor the Ormiston Ilkeston Academy; Beryl Miles ex head of specialism at Ilkeston School; Nina McNelis and Kate Le Prevost The Ormiston Ilkeston Academy. The evening will be compered by Kate Le Prevost who has been the champion for this project over the last 6 years. The current exhibition in situe is a selection of works from the Ilkeston Partnership Sixth Form Centre.
