Floral boost for town centre

Floral planters and extra benches will give Ilkeston town centre a summer boost thanks to improvements by Erewash Borough Council.
Business leaders and residents were recently asked for their thoughts on what would help lift and improve the town centre and extra seating and more floral displays were popular suggestions.
Now the council’s economic development team is putting those ideas into action and have a number of floral planters which will be filled with seasonal plants and fitted to shops in Ilkeston town centre streets to complement the usual summertime displays in the heart of the town.
Businesses are being encouraged to take part, with the shop’s commitment being to care for the planter going forward – but those interested must get in touch with the council before Thursday 14 March.
Over the coming weeks, there will also be some additional benches installed to give more opportunities for shoppers to take a break.
Councillor Michael Powell, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning, says:
“Residents and business owners agree that flower displays add a feelgood factor to the town centre, making it a welcoming place to be. So we are delighted to support them by providing planters for some shops that will complement our usual displays. It is part of our ongoing work to help breathe new life into both Ilkeston and Long Eaton town centres.”
