Carnival time for Ilkeston
A colourful parade, music, dance and lots of family fun . . . it must be carnival time in Ilkeston again!
This year’s 25th Ilkeston Lions Carnival takes place on Saturday 13th June with the traditional parade of floats, marching band and vintage cars leaving Belfield Street at 12.30pm and travelling up Bath Street, through the Market Place and down to Rutland Recreation Ground.
Organised by Ilkeston Lions Club, the annual event is always a great family day out as onlookers watch the parade and then enjoy the entertainment at the carnival showground.
The carnival site will be open from 12noon and will includes lots of stalls and things to do, while the arena will feature entertainment including The Borrowash Ambassadors, Flying Dakos gymnastics display team and the Dance Divaz.
The ever-popular tug of war competition will also be held throughout the afternoon and teams of five can enter on the day – with a £50 prize up for grabs.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“Ilkeston Carnival will once again bring colour and fun to town with the traditional parade and carnival entertainment for all the family. Our congratulations go again to Ilkeston Lions Club for ensuring this annual event goes ahead and we hope local people of all ages will turn out in force to support and enjoy the day - come rain or shine!”
